Knitted Turban Headband

Molly asked me to make her a knitted turban headband a while back. I finished the main part a long time ago, I was just too lazy to finish it off properly until recently.

This one is actually my second try, the first one I made too thin (shown below). It doesn't look weird in the picture because its not stretched out, but when Molly put it on it looked awfully silly.

This is what it is more or less modeled after.
I really want to try and make this one, but I'm having trouble understanding the pattern. Maybe someday.

Embroidery Hoops

I saw this idea somewhere, but I forget where.

I'm not sure about the colors, but I like the general idea.

Heart Shirt Disaster

I saw this on polyvore the other day and decided I should make something like it.

I had a baggy, long-sleeved white shirt I got from the goodwill last week that I thought would work. I knew that I should have used fabric paint or screen ink, but I didn't have any around and didn't have time  (and was too lazy) to take the bus to the craft store. So I ended up using a red sharpie I found in the common room. I printed out a huge heart and got it all set up, then embarked on the arduous of making a million sharpie dots to fill the entire thing. I felt a bit like George Seurat.

The first sharpie died so I had to buy a second one, which resulted in super uneven ink distribution because it was all pale where I used the old one and dark where I used the new one. I finally finished it, and although it was pretty splotchy, I was fairly happy with the outcome. That is until I washed it with a little Woolite in the sink and the entire thing turned bright pink.

All in all, I still like the concept, so hopefully someday I will make it correctly.

I feel like a lot of my crafting ideas come to fruition in a manner similar to this, I get an idea, figure out how to do it but fail to acquire the proper supplies, and then fail. I never learn.

Fabric Flowers

I made some fabric flowers the other day.

I singed the edges to make them curl up all nicely.

I don't really know what to do with them, but they look nice.

I did put one on a headband, which I'm happy with.

Easter Weekend

We're in the last few weeks of school, and there's been a lot going on: housingness, papers and thoughts about the summer.

So we (Molly, Caroline and I) decided to take a break and go downtown yesterday. Cuteness ensued.

Today we've all been getting some work down and figuring out our schedules for next year. But this morning, we dyed eggs.

Next year, we're doing fancy Martha Stewart eggs: http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/easter-eggs

P.S. My mom sent these pictures of my cats this morning.

Sort of love her a lot.

Hurricane Slouch and Ski Cabining

The dorm went to Reed's ski cabin this weekend, sans Molly :(

It was beautiful and really nice to get away.

So much snow.

And then more.

The weekend turned out a little crazy, college students left to their own devices and all.

Oh and there was this cool thing.

While we were there, I finished a hat I started last week.

The pattern is called “Hurricane Hat”.

Pattern:

I did alter the pattern to a slouch, if you can’t tell. I casted on with 52 stitches, made a 1’’ rim in a 1x1 rib, then did one row of K1, M1. Then a second row of K1, M1 until the last 20 (I think) stiches, where I just did M1 til the end of the row (52+26=72, 72+48=121). You need to have a total number of stitches that is 1+a multiple of 10. I ended with 121 stitches, however the hat turned out a little gigantic, so I might take it down by 10 or 20 stitches if I were to do it again.

Another Multi-colored Beret, but with a tassle :D

I made another one of these hats.

I had a half a skein and my mom did too from a scarf she made from the same stuff, so I stole it over spring break and made this.

I added this silly little tassle too.

It was a a gift for a friend, Mary, who was apparently admiring the other one I made.

Yesterday was the first warm day we've really had and its put everyone in a good mood. Today was lovely too. Coming from somewhere where seasons don't really exist, this is the first time I've really appreciated the change in weather.
